M O D E L - T:
Veterinary Prosthetic 3-point system

The MODEL-T Prosthetic System was designed to restore mobility and comfort for patients with rear-limb amputations. The goal was to create a modular, anatomically-driven system that adapts to each dog’s unique body structure while maintaining natural movement and stability.

Rear Limb Amputation Instability

The core opportunity identified was the development of a prosthetic system tailored for specific hind-limb amputation scenarios. The paramount design objective was achieving biomimetic synchronization, ensuring the prosthetic moves in precise unison with the patient's existing anatomy.

  • Liner: A custom-fit interface for the amputated limb, providing a soft, protective layer

  • Shell: A vacuum-formed plastic shell designed to encapsulate the liner

  • Spine Plate: A lightweight component added for stability

  • Femoral Cuff: A contoured cuff with an integrated liner that secures around the upper thigh

System Components

The process began with capturing an accurate impression of the patient’s limb and recording all key measurements. These physical references were used to develop a fully parametric 3D model of the prosthetic system, ensuring the geometry aligned with both the patient’s anatomy and internal production standards.

Design & Development Process

The 3D model was separated into four key parts to study fit, structure, and assembly relationships.

To communicate the intended visual identity, I produced renderings showcasing the system’s proportion, hinge articulation, and carbon-fiber finish, illustrating how the Model-T aligns with OrthoPets’ future design direction.

Final Model Documentation:

The following photos show the final MODEL-T units prepared for shipment. Capturing the real-world finish and detailing of the assembled prosthetic.

  • Final Assembly: Fully vacuum-formed and assembled Model-T system with corrugation.

  • Shell Detailing: Surface contouring and component transitions that reflect the updated design language.

  • Spine Plate Integration: Foam lining and hinge positioning tested for anatomical accuracy.
